1stXV cut down the Wheats to record first league win at home
Earlsdon delivered a dominant performance against Old Wheatleyans, cruising to a 42-10 victory in a match where they showcased their strength across the park, particularly in the forwards. From the opening whistle, Earlsdon’s pack imposed themselves on the game, setting a platform that allowed the backs to play with confidence and precision. The home side ran in several superb tries, demonstrating both power and flair. The forwards laid the groundwork with relentless physicality at the breakdown and in the set-pieces, winning key battles in the scrums and lineouts that kept Old Wheatleyans on the back foot for most of the match. Fly-half Jack Tague was instrumental in orchestrating the attack, dictating the tempo with a combination of deft kicking and sharp passing. His vision and game management kept the opposition guessing, allowing Earlsdon to control the game and keep the scoreboard ticking over. Old Wheatleyans did manage to fight back with a couple of brilliant tries, but they struggled to cope with the sheer physicality and relentless pressure applied by Earlsdon’s forward pack. Despite their efforts, they were out muscled in most areas of the game.
Post-match, coach Jon Fitt praised the mentality and focus of his team. “The boys were outstanding today, both mentally and physically. The forwards really set the tone, and Jack [Tague] was brilliant at fly-half, controlling the game beautifully. It’s great to see the hard work paying off.” This comprehensive victory puts Earlsdon in a strong position as they continue their league campaign, with confidence running high after such an impressive display.
