Coalville RFC

7 - 8

(HT 0-0)

Earlsdon RFC

Earlsdon RFC produced a gritty performance to edge out Coalville 8-7 in a hard-fought contest on their opponent’s President’s Day. Played in freezing, wet, and muddy conditions, both sides showcased resilience and determination, but it was Earlsdon’s dominance in the set-piece and composure under pressure that secured the victory.

Playing with the wind in the first half, Earlsdon took control early, particularly in the scrum, where they were utterly dominant throughout the game. The breakthrough came from this platform, with Tom Bramwell controlling the ball at the back for Micky Moore to dive over for the opening try. Despite further chances, Earlsdon couldn’t add to their tally before halftime, with execution letting them down at crucial moments often due to the conditions or some unnoticed Coalville infringements.

The second half was a tense affair, with the game ebbing and flowing between the two sides. Coalville capitalized on a rare Earlsdon error at the lineout, earning a free kick that led to a converted try, putting the hosts 7-5 ahead. However, this Earlsdon side has shown significant growth this season, and they didn’t panic under pressure.

With ten minutes remaining, Logan Walsh provided the game’s decisive moment, bursting through the Coalville defense on a powerful kick return. This led to a penalty, which Jack Tague coolly slotted despite the swirling wind, putting Earlsdon back in front at 8-7. From there, it was all about game management, and Earlsdon held firm to see out the win.
