Old Wheatleyans RFC

13 - 41

(HT 0-0)

Earlsdon RFC

Earlsdon put in a dominant display to secure a 41-13 victory over Old Wheatleyans, showcasing power, precision, and a relentless team spirit. From the opening whistle, Earlsdon were in control, combining ferocious defence, clinical finishing, and forward dominance to seal an emphatic win.

The scoring began with Dyal, who capped off a brilliantly worked move after immense defensive pressure. Shortly after, Charlie Knight powered over in the corner, demonstrating his strength and hunger to extend the lead.

Old Wheatleyans managed just two penalties off rare Earlsdon mistakes, but they were never truly in the contest. Earlsdon’s pack completely overwhelmed them in the scrum, with Moore and Tinkler both touching down after dominant forward play. Wheats’ sole try came from a well-executed driving maul, but it was little more than a consolation.

Key players continue to shine in this team. Max McHugh has truly come of age, playing with maturity and consistency that has been crucial to the squad’s success. Deepinder, meanwhile, is tearing up the league with his blistering pace and ability to punish defences, consistently causing problems for opposition teams.

Head Coach Jon Fitt was full of pride after the game, not only for the performance but for the incredible progress the team has made over the past three months.

“This group has come so far in such a short time,” Fitt said. “Players like Max and Deepinder are stepping up, and the whole squad is rising to the challenge. Today’s performance shows what this team is capable of. I couldn’t be prouder of these players.”

Fitt also praised the unwavering support from the club and its stalwarts, whose passion and dedication continue to inspire the squad.

“The backing from the Earlsdon family—from the stalwarts who’ve supported this club through everything to the fans cheering us on—is what makes this team special,” Fitt added. “We’re proud to represent this badge and couldn’t do it without all of you.”

This victory sees Earlsdon sitting second in the league table on 43 points. The next fixture is a massive one: a home game against Broadstreet RFC on Thursday, 4th January, to kick off the new year. The game will be a 14:15 KO, and the team will need to start 2025 with the same intensity and focus they’ve shown in recent months.

This wasn’t just another win; it was a statement of how far Earlsdon have come and what they can achieve moving forward.
