Earlsdon RFC

32 - 12

(HT 0-0)

Broadstreet RFC

On a 'fresh' Saturday afternoon, Earlsdon delivered a solid performance against local rivals Broadstreet, securing a 32-12 win in front of a pleased home crowd. Thanks to the relentless efforts of the grounds staff, the pitch was in prime condition for what proved to be a hard-fought derby.

The first 25 minutes belonged to Earlsdon, who came out of the blocks with intensity and precision. Dominating up front, they set the tone with controlled scrums and well-executed phases. Two penalties from the scrum allowed Bramwell to secure clean ball, paving the way for Moore to dive over for two tries. Both were converted with pinpoint accuracy by Tague, and a further penalty stretched the lead to 15-0, leaving Broadstreet struggling to match Earlsdon's pace and power.

Adding to the occasion was the celebration of Tom Bramwell’s 100th game for the 1st XV. Bramwell rose to the occasion, delivering a commanding performance that earned him the well-deserved Man of the Match honor. His leadership and skill were instrumental in Earlsdon’s dominance during those opening exchanges.

Broadstreet clawed their way back into the game before halftime, capitalising on a few uncharacteristic errors from Earlsdon to score a try.

The second half began scrappily, with both teams struggling to find rhythm. However, Earlsdon’s forwards reasserted control, driving over from a well-drilled lineout for another try. Despite an intercept try that briefly reignited Broadstreet’s hopes, Earlsdon maintained their composure. A penalty kick extended the lead before a late moment of brilliance sealed the bonus point. Will Haywood’s fly-hack forward saw him and Tague pounce on the ball, securing downward pressure and the much-needed fourth try.

After the game, coach Jon Fitt praised the win but acknowledged room for improvement: “Beating a team like Broadstreet is never easy in a local derby, so we’re pleased to take the win. The first 25 minutes were some of the best rugby we’ve played all season, but we know we can sustain that level for longer.”

The victory was made even more special by Bramwell’s milestone appearance. The Earlsdon faithful celebrated not only a local derby win but also the contributions of a player who has been a cornerstone of the team for years.

With a passionate crowd, a milestone achievement, and a valuable derby win, Earlsdon will look to build on this performance as they continue their campaign.
