Friday night Lights for the 2’s ends in Defeat
Balsall & Berkswell secured a well-earned 31-10 victory over Earlsdon in a hard-fought match that saw both sides give their all. Balsall’s dominance in the forwards was key, with their pack controlling the tempo and creating opportunities in attack.
Despite Balsall's edge up front, Earlsdon's defence was outstanding. Led by Man of the Match Barney Leeks, who was everywhere on the pitch, Earlsdon kept the game close with their relentless tackling and determination. Leeks put in a tireless shift, making crucial tackles and leading his team with heart. Earlsdon, coach Gaz Withers explained, “it was not the result we were hoping for! We do have to put this down to being beaten by a much better team on the night. They played with pace and precision, through another huge defensive display from the boys in red and white, and we didn’t give up until the final whistle. This shone through by and 70-meter solo effort from young Aaron Harris and a huge try for us from Sam Lucas. Also, massive thanks to Martin “Vagas” Thompson, Andy Bowyer and Tom Walker , old first teamers from what feels like a few decades ago, all coming back to put the jersey on , and see how their bodies can cope . it will be brilliant to see some more of the old guard coming back to support their club, and help these young lads push forward for that 1st team jersey.”
Balsall’s clinical finishing ultimately made the difference, but Earlsdon’s resilience and Leeks' standout performance made it a contest to remember and another step in the right direction for Earlsdon as a club.
Final Score: Balsall & Berkswell 31 - 10 Earlsdon
Man of the Match: Barney Leeks (Earlsdon)
