Earlsdon RFC

Earlsdon 21 - 50 Camp Hill

Earlsdon slipped to a frustrating 21–50 defeat against Camp Hill despite making a blistering start that promised far more than the final scoreline suggested.

From the opening whistle, the away side were electric. They controlled territory, tempo, and possession with real authority, stitching together some of their best rugby of the season. Captain and eventual man of the match Sarjeant capped off the dominant opening spell with a superbly taken try, finishing a flowing move that showcased Earlsdon’s ambition and sharpness. Tague’s three well-struck penalty goals added further reward, and after 20 minutes Earlsdon held a commanding lead and all the momentum.

But the match swung dramatically. Accuracy began to slip, decision-making faltered, and discipline evaporated in key moments. Camp Hill seized every opportunity, capitalising ruthlessly on turnovers and penalties. What had been a composed, energetic performance unravelled as the home team ran in try after try, turning the contest into a one-sided affair in the final hour.

After the game, coach Jon Fitt was candid about the performance. He highlighted the exceptional opening period, insisting that if Earlsdon had maintained that level for the full 80 minutes, Camp Hill “would have thrown the towel in.” Instead, the sharp decline in energy and focus left the team disappointed after such an encouraging start. Fitt stressed the need for learning—staying in the fight, managing momentum shifts, and ensuring key moments are handled with calm and clarity. He also challenged the group’s core leaders to step up and emphasised that off-field standards must improve across the entire squad.

There was, however, a bright note for the club: the 2nd XV delivered a brilliant victory of their own. Several players from that performance are now knocking loudly for first-team selection, adding welcome competition and fresh motivation as Earlsdon look to respond next weekend against Droitwich.
