Earlsdon RFC

Berkswell & Balsall 24–31 Earlsdon

Earlsdon opened their league campaign with a five-try, bonus-point victory away at Berkswell & Balsall, returning home with five points and plenty to build on.

Chris Waller led the scoring with an excellent hat-trick, while Logan Walsh added a brilliant support try and Nat Hall powered over for a trademark crash-and-bang finish. Three conversions from Jack Tague completed Earlsdon’s 31-point tally.

Earlsdon held the upper hand throughout, but their failure to turn periods of territorial advantage into points kept the home side firmly in contention. There were opportunities to put the game beyond reach, and greater accuracy at those moments will be a focus in the weeks ahead.

Credit must also go to a spirited Berkswell & Balsall side, whose excellent lineout provided a strong platform and helped them remain competitive. Their determination ensured Earlsdon had to work for the result.

Alongside Waller’s finishing, Callum Forsyth delivered a performance that earned him coach Jon Fitt’s man-of-the-match award. Forsyth carried out everything asked of him, combining constant communication with purposeful attacking play to make a significant contribution to the victory. James Wickham was also exceptional at scrum-half showing his power and leadership.

Captain Jack Sarjeant had every reason to be pleased as Earlsdon secured the perfect points return from their opening fixture. "The performance showed the squad’s quality and spirit, while leaving clear room for improvement."

Fitt was pleased with the win and the individual contributions across the team, but his expectations remain high. "Earlsdon will need to be more clinical, make better use of territory and turn promising positions into points more consistently as the season develops."

Five points in the bag, a winning start on the road, and attention now turns to the next challenge.
